Being a fan of the series, I have beaten both games at least five times and personally, the only thing that will get in the way of having a great time is the dark backstory.
But, the game is short so you most likely won't see a lot of this, I didn't until my 3rd or 4th play through of this. I got the games at 9, but to be honest, Portal 2, while getting an E10 rating, was a little scarier. The graffiti was a lot more frequent and the remains of Aperture Science in Portal 2 all ruined and broken glass was more eerie than the original, no contest. I don't know which one I like better, the problem with Portal 1 is that it's so short.
There are some good ones in there, but games have all just gone to crap lately, or at least what the majority of people like are just bad games. Portal is a diamond in the rough and the graphics have aged well, for sure. The story albeit a bit creepy is actually very good and immersing. Just if you finish this, play Portal 2 as it's a direct sequel and does continue the story, and does make references to things that happened in Portal.
