The work involved the conceptualization and design of a Leadership Training Model in Education That Is Multicultural, in order to prepare Teach Corps project staff to better meet the needs of multi-ethnic children from low income families, Research: My current research is in four areas: 1.

The first is on the factors why Latin America is not able to progress socio-economically like other nations, given their long history.

With the highest high school dropout rates and the lowest entrance to college of any group, I believe that the usual explanations, all external to the group, while in part true, are not as pivotal as others, nor do they provide the best solutions to the problem. Here we have to look elsewhere, and that is where my research is taking me. A key variable in this research is the role of religious faith. Does the individualism of mainline Protestantism contribute more to academic achievement than the collectivism of Catholicism?

What about Pentecostalism? What about the role of Afro-Caribbean cults in the educational transformation of a people?

Is religion a factor in the educational achievement among Latinos as a group? A closely related third area is on the role of Latino religion in an urban context, exploring the question: What difference does faith make in a community? Is religion a factor in the socioeconomic transform of a community out of poverty? And if so, which faith? Afro-Caribbean cult groups? Or none? In this area I am also exploring the dynamics of quantum physics to a more enlightened approach to urban transformation.

A fourth area is on ethnic consciousness and the Spanish mystics of the Edad de Oro. I have already traveled to Spain and connected with scholars of mysticism on this subject. Nature of the Consulting Work Done: The nature of the work done for the organizations listed below is of a varied nature and includes but is not limited to: 1. Multiculturalism is a system, a set of interrelated parts in this case, beliefs and behaviors which make up the whole of how humans experience today s world. It includes what people believe about others, their basic paradigms, and how this impact, and are impacted by, behavior.

The one-sided approach to history and education has been a testimony to that fact. With recognition should also comes respect. Respect and recognition are not the same, since recognizing the existence of a group does not necessarily elicit respect for the group.

In a slave economy, for example, the presence of slaves was recognized but their humanity was not respected. The contribution of women has usually been relegated to a footnote status. Our nation has a long history of not respecting the rights of the powerless. Multiculturalism also entails acknowledging the validity of the cultural expressions and contributions of the various groups. This is not to imply that all cultural contributions are of equal value and social worth, or that all should be tolerated.

These cultural expressions and contributions that differ from those of the dominant group in society are usually only acknowledged when there is an economic market for them, such as music for African American, native Indian dances for tourism or cuisine from India.

When the business sector wants our money, the advertising industry pictures people of color in a positive light. But in most other cases the entertainment media simply caricatures minority stereotypes, such as women usually in supportive roles. A Re-Perception Quiz 1. In this article a working definition of multiculturalism is proposed that seeks to explain and value human In this article a working definition of multiculturalism is proposed that seeks to explain and value human diversity, the institutional response to differences, for making a better world. Our overarching context, the socio-cultural framework out of which we experience the world, largely determines the resulting content of our lives, the way we see the world.

Our views about God tell us more about ourselves than about God, Our views about God tell us more about ourselves than about God, for they expose the context out of which we operate and the resulting content that emerges.

David R. An atheist, then, merely reveals a context so small that there is only room for the content of personal ego. The same can be said of the theologies, urban theories, and methodologies of ministry that emerge to meet the challenge of urban ministry.

If their context is too small, many well-meaning programs are found to be ineffective. Thus, the need arises for a perspective of wholeness to meet the global challenges of the task at hand. I will first introduce the model and then discuss its implications to the mission of the urban church. We live in a divided world dominated by a fragmentary worldview that treats the wholeness of the human family, urban environments, and social reality as inherently discrete, distanced, and disconnected.

Almost all discussion of urban social policies emerges from a context of fragmented thinking. It culminates with an analysis of the Broken Window Theory and how the differences in approaches—fragmentation or wholeness—generate different results. The critical point is in recognizing the energy patterns and operative attractor fields from which emerge negative or positive patterns of behavior. Ethnic Identity, Internet, culture.
